Judy Hoberg judyh@studiosonhigh.com artist web site I enjoy all forms art, but I knew I had found my niche when I first started working in clay. The infinite possibilities of manipulating this earthy material is addictive to me. I am constantly reminded that in spite of all my plans and preconceived ideas, the nature of the clay dictates the final outcome. I am working in partnership with this product of nature.
I am fascinated by all things living, this marvelous gift of life. I can sit for hours watching birds and animals... that is my idea of a delight filled day. In my caricatures, I try to portray the joy and trust of a puppy when it rushes up to greet you. That sense of "I'm glad you are here, and I'm glad I am here!" I celebrate that connection among all living things.
The warm color and texture of the high fired stoneware with which I work, lends itself to imitating the joy of nature. I love the moment in the creative process when the sculpture becomes alive, as if it just shifted to see me better. I feel if I have come upon an animal in the act of being it's delightful self. At that point I have caught myself saying, "Well, hello there!" out loud. I welcome your meeting these whimsical critters. I hope they make you pause and smile.
