Weathering explores the quiet relationship between weather and time through light and composition. While these paintings begin with familiar spaces in Central Ohio, they focus less on documenting specific landmarks and more on capturing the atmosphere.

How the collection came together

Many of the reference photos for this series came from drives home after evening figure drawing. Getting back into life drawing shifted the focus away from the final product and back to the quiet discipline of the process itself. That practice naturally led into plein air painting over the summer––working quickly within a two-hour window brought a fresh, spontaneous energy back to the artists practice. A sketchbook of these quick field studies will be on display alongside the finished paintings.
